Up in Smoke: High Heel Science:

Model: Ariana Loken Scientifically speaking, we’ve come a long way in the past few years. From landing on Mars to successfully completing the Red Bull Stratos jump, we’ve truly been breaking barriers as a society. Another notch to add to the list of accomplishments is a paper released by the University of Portsmouth proving that high heels do in fact make women look sexier. “There is a strong contemporary association between high heels and female sexuality,” states the article published in Evolution and Human Behavior. “Biomechanical analyses revealed that wearing high heels led to increased femininity of gait including reduced stride length and increased rotation and tilt of the hips.” To reach this evident conclusion, researchers had 30 participants watch a motion-capture video of women walking, from the waist down, wearing high heels or flats. The participants were then asked to rate how attractive they thought the women were; every participant chose the women wearing high heels as more attractive. Researchers believe that this is largely due to the fact that wearing heels accentuates women’s feminine features and changes both the stride as well as the way the entire body moves, but we’d wager it’s because women can go from frumpy to drop-dead sexy when they slip on a pair.
