Up in Smoke: Playmate Firsts

To commemorate the first Mexican-American PMOY Raquel Pomplun, we’re taking a look back at a few other firsts our Playmates have accomplished over the years. Like our first Cybergirl to become a Playmate, Stephanie Heinrich. The gorgeous blonde was originally Cybergirl of the Week back in September 2000, was named the first Cybergirl of the Month in January 2001 and ultimately appeared in the magazine as Miss October 2001.

Then there were the Collinson twins, who posed together as Misses October 1970 as our first ever Playmate twins, a trend we’re sure you’re thrilled that we kept around. And who can forget Sue Williams, who posed in 1965. She was the first Playmate to get breast implants as well as the first who was less than five feet tall.

One fact you may not have known, though, was that technically Marilyn Monroe was not the first Playmate, or even a Playmate at all! While she did appear in our first magazine, she was dubbed a “Sweetheart of the Month,” not a Playmate. It was, in fact, Margie Harrison, who appeared in the second issue and was Playmate twice that year, for both January and June 1954.

Click through the slideshow to see some of the other Playmates who have made history by being a Playmate first.
