Up in Smoke: Smart Sex

As if you needed another reason to justify your little black book, a study out of Italy has confirmed that you can increase your IQ by having a healthy sex life. Between this and the fact that sex can reduce stress while thinning your waistline, you may as well swap out one of your multivitamins for a quickie.

Italian researchers at the University of Pavia performed blood tests on three groups: those who had recently fallen in love, those who were in a long-term relationship and those who were single. While the blood test revealed that those who were having sex at least once a day saw the most significant brain boost, those who were in a long-term relationship had little to no growth at all.

In short, those who had just fallen in love and were experiencing new sex were getting the most health benefits from having sex, including a higher level of nerve growth, which is linked to greater mental alertness and increase in memory.

Maybe an open relationship isn’t such a bad idea after all?

This isn’t the first time sex has been connected to higher brain power. In another study, researchers found that people who were having sex once a day had lower levels of stress and higher brain cell growth as opposed to those who were only having sex once every two weeks.

So when it comes down to it, the more adventurous your sex is, the better. We’d wager the reason why those in long-term relationships didn’t benefit from their amorous activities was they weren’t keeping things interesting in the bedroom. May we suggest a viewing of our Kama Sutra videos?
