To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.
Skeye Nano Drone
You know what’s cooler than drones? Really tiny drones. The Skeye Nano Drone is just a hair over an inch and a half square, but is capable of highly precise flying. It can perform figure 8s and banked turns and has three flying modes depending on your pilot skills. It doesn’t have a camera. But hopefully that will happen soon.
Sibirjak Lounge Chair
Price unavailable, anastasiyakoshcheeva.com
Russian designer Anastasiya Koschcheeva created the seating surfaces for this modern lounge chair and ottoman out of birchbark. While not often used in furniture, birchbark is flexible, soft, and strong, making it ideal for a chair. The bright orange string gives a nice pop of color and pulls the sleek design together.
LaCie Mirror Hard Drive
It takes a lot to get us excited about an external hard drive, but the new one from LaCie is pretty awesome. Covered in mirrored Gorilla Glass, the same stuff used for iPhone screens, the 1-terabyte drive was created by industrial designer Pauline Deltour and comes with an ebony wood display stand.
Land Rover Defender Heritage Edition
From $42,162, landrover.com
Sadly, Land Rover is ending production of its legendary Defender this year. On the plus side, the British company is going out with a bang and releasing three limited edition versions of the Defender. Our favorite is the Heritage, which is inspired by the original Land Rover Series I, a 4x4 that existed before there were terms like “sport utility vehicle” and “soccer mom.” The Heritage edition comes in the iconic Grasmere Green color and features a retro Land Rover badge on the grill.
Budweiser x Alife Sweatshirt
Craft beer is an amazing thing, but there is still only one “King of Beers.” New York streetwear brand Alife linked up with Budweiser on a capsule collection, including skateboards, hats, and shirts. The crewneck sweatshirt is a particular stand out with Bud’s “Genuine” on the right sleeve and “Alife” on the left.
