To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.
ZIPPO X SPAZUK LIGHTER
The Canadian artist Steven Spazuk doesn’t use brushes and paints to create his work. Instead, he opts for fire. To create the illustration on this limited-edition lighter, Spazuk deployed the flame of a Zippo to create darkened areas on a piece of paper and then created shapes in the resulting soot. While most lighters come and go, this is one you definitely don’t want to lose.
At this point, Bluetooth speakers come in just about every shape imaginable—discs, pills, bars, balls. But sometimes, it’s best to go back to the beginning. Designer Paolo Cappello was inspired by the shape of classic gramophones when he created the Luciano. The ceramic horn is crafted in Italy and has a 15-watt, 3-inch speaker capable of cranking music at 85 decibels. And if you are a super baller, you can even get one cast in 24 carat gold.

Nike has created a challenging moonshot for itself: to break the 2-hour barrier for the marathon. The current world record stands at 2:02:57. To help its fastest marathoners get under two hours, Nike developed this new shoe featuring the ZoomX midsole that is considerably thicker than other racing flats while remaining lightweight and providing greater energy return to runners.
OPINEL X L.L. BEAN MOOSEHEAD KNIFE
The French brand Opinel has been making cutlery since 1890 and it is perhaps best known for its pocket knives. This No.8 model has a familar shape, but the handle is quite unique. It is made from maple logs that sank to the bottom of Moosehead Lake in L.L. Bean’s home state of Maine more than 100 years ago. Bean reclaimed the wood that has been naturally preserved during that time and used it to create the handle on this knife that has an extremely sharp stainless steel blade.
