To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.
OLLOCLIP ACTIVE LENS
The camera on the iPhone 6 is pretty great, but everything can use a little help. The new Olloclip Active Lens easily attaches to the front or rear-facing lenses on your iPhone 6 or 6+, and features an Ultra-Wide Lens that creates an effect similar to a GoPro camera and a Telephoto Lens that provides 2x optical zoom to for better close-up shots. The entire package is small enough that your phone won’t feel bulky, and it fits easily in a pocket when you’re not using it.
BEST MADE CO. LONGBOW
Archery has undergone a bit of a renaissance owing to the popularity of Game of Thrones and Hunger Games (and let’s not forget the Dukes of Hazzard). If you want to take aim with a bow and arrow, this version from Best Made Co., makers of those amazing axes, is both beautiful and functional. Constructed from American hickory wood and laminated in black fiberglass, it’s easy enough for beginners to practice on and strong enough for experienced archers. Even if you don’t want to shoot the arrows, it looks great hanging on a wall.
KAHN FLYING HUNSTMAN 6x6
Price unavailable, kahndesign.com
This is so much more truck than any mere mortal needs and that’s precisely why we want it so badly. You counted right. It has six wheels! The Flying Huntsman 6x6 from Britain’s Kahn Designs starts with a Land Rover Defender 110, then lengthens and widens it to ridiculous proportions. It has a 6.2-liter V8 and produces 430 horsepower, and if you want to go even more over the top, you can get an armor-plated version. The Flying Huntsman is just a concept for now, but with Land Rover ceasing production of the Defender, hopefully Kahn starts making these soon.
ROGUE PENDLETON PILSNER
Price varies, rogueales.com
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Pendleton and the timeless style of their blankets and other gear. And we also like beer because it’s beer. So we were happy to hear that craft brewer Rogue Ales teamed up with Pendleton, a fellow Oregon company, to create a new beer. Pendleton Pilsner features hops and barley grown on Rogue’s farm and the bottle features a design that is instantly recognizable to Pendleton fans.
ZUNG ESSAOUIRA SKATEBOARD
The shape on this deck, with its pointy nose and wide body, is influenced by the late NYC skate legend Andy Kessler. The graphics are inspired by tiles and patterns from Morocco. As great as it looks, this board isn’t precious. It’s built to carve pools and bowls and also works well as a cruiser when you need to run to the store to pick up a six-pack.
