To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.
WILSON X CONNECTED FOOTBALL
No more guessing how far that deep bomb you threw actually traveled. The Wilson X Connected football is the next-generation pigskin. While it feels and throws exactly like a traditional football, it can also track data such as distance, velocity, spin rate, and spiral efficiency because of a tiny sensor embedded in the ball. The sensor connects to Wilson’s smartphone app via Bluetooth so you can keep track of your stats and also play one of five game modes.
CLASSIFIED MOTO FIVE-0 1000
From $16,000, classifiedmoto.com
Virginia-based custom bike builder John Ryland of Classified Moto is known more for building cafe racer-style bikes. But for his latest project he took a modern sport bike, a 2013 Suzuki GSX-R 1000, and gave it the Classified treatment. His team added a custom exhaust, altered the geometry for a more upright riding position, and incorporated the brand’s signature post-apocalyptic patina. But the bike is still a screamer capable of hitting 190 miles per hour.
MODERNICA X CLEON PETERSON DAYBED
Los Angeles-based artist Cleon Peterson’s brutalist black and white characters are a little bit scary and a lot bit engaging. They also are utterly striking when laid out on Modernica’s classic daybed. The limited edition daybed is a statement piece of furniture that will become a talking point in any room that it lives.
STREAKER SPORTS 1972 PREFONTAINE TEE
If you’ve got Olympic fever and want to show off your American pride with more of a throwback vibe, Streaker Sports has recreated this T-shirt worn by the iconoclast distance runner Steve Prefontaine. The shirt is a replica of one that Pre wore from the 1972 Olympic track and field trials when he set the American record in the 5,000 meters before going to the games in Munich and finishing fourth.
BEASTGRIP PRO RIG
The cameras on today’s smartphones are fairly amazing, but with the benefit of a few accessories the phone also becomes a device capable of filming movies with incredibly high production value. Beastgrip’s rig makes attaching those accessories easier with all the mounts you’d need—and comes with an external wide angle and a fisheye lens for setting up different types of shots.
