To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.
Leica is bringing its incredible optics and sense of design to the world of instant cameras. The Sofort is the first Leica that prints images immediately. Packaged in a compact body that is available in mint, orange, or white, the camera has an optical viewfinder and allows a photographer to fully take control with its manual settings. There are also automatic modes for folks who just want to snap pics without dealing with a bunch of menus, and it can shoot instant film in both black and white and color.
MERCEDES AMG GT C ROADSTER
Price unavailable, mbusa.com
Mercedes figured out one of the few ways to improve upon the AMG GT: by letting drivers drop the top. The 2017 Mercedes AMG GT C Roadster was recently revealed with a whopping 550 horsepower (compared with 456 on the existing base model) and a wider rear end to accomodate bigger wheels. It only takes 11 seconds for the top to open and close and it can do so while the car is going 30 miles an hour, which might be even more impressive than the horsepower stat.
TOPO DESIGNS X WOOLRICH KLETTERSACK
Topo Designs Klettersack was already one of the most functional and stylish backpacks out, but the incorporation of Woolrich’s renowned wools makes it stand out even more. The bag is fully lined and the top-loading design makes it easy to get to your stuff. The western print also makes you feel like a cowboy—even if you ride a subway instead of a horse to work.
SHINOLA CANFIELD CANNONBALL
“The Wabash Cannonball” is a folk song about a mythical train speeding down the tracks that you probably learned as a kid. Johnny Cash sings a mean version of it and the track inspired songs by everyone from Woody Guthrie to Chuck Berry. Shinola’s new Canfield Cannonball watch pays tribute to the song with minute markers on the dial that are arranged to look like a railroad track. Limited to 1,0000 timepieces, each one comes with a 45 rpm record bound in a leather sleeve that features a cover of the song by Willie Nelson’s son Lukas.
BOSE SOUNDTOUCH 300 SOUNDBAR
Bose’s new soundbar makes binge-watching TV even more bingeworthy. Standing just 2.25 inches tall, it commands greater attention than its diminutive stature would lead you to believe. The SoundTouch 300 looks awesome with its glass top and wraparound metal grill (and sounds even better). Even though it is centrally located, the speaker delivers signals to the left and right of a room, so you get a surround sound experience without needing a bunch of additional speakers.
