To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.
AIRSTREAM BASECAMP TRAILER
Car camping just got a whole lot cooler. Airstream trailers have always stood out for their elegant aluminum skin that is the exact opposite of “trailer park trash.” Now the company has a trailer that is more adventure friendly. The Basecamp is the lightest trailer Airstream offers so you can tow it with just about any midsize SUV and access terrain that heavier trailers can’t. But even when you are off the grid, there are still modern amentities, like a bench that converts into a full bed, USB charging ports, and hot water—because even the biggest dirtbag adventurer loves a hot shower.
MOPHIE POWER CAPSULE
The days of your phone being the only thing that needs on-the-go charging are gone. Whether it’s Bluetooth ear buds or a fitness tracker, it seems that something always needs juice. The new Mophie Power Capsule allows you to charge those smaller devices and keep them secure. Constructed of durable foam and silicone, the case holds a 1400mAh battery that provides up to eight full charges for a pair of wireless ear buds.
GOPRO KARMA DRONE
GoPro is selling karma, in drone form. The new GoPro Karma drone folds up neatly into a lightweight backpack, making it easy to take with you whether you are on a hike or riding your bike. Flying it is a breeze even if you have no idea what you’re doing and the Karma works with the Hero 4 and Hero 5 cameras. The propellers are designed to generate more lift so the Karma is also a lot less noisy than other drones and every one comes with a Karma Grip that serves as a handheld steadicam attachment for your camera.
It’s pure coincidence that karma features in two of this week’s Want List items. Like the Karma drone, the Karma Revero also takes off. It is the first car sold in the U.S. that is powered by electricity, gas, and solar energy and goes 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. A solar panel on the roof charges the main battery and generates about 1.5 miles of range per day. The electric motors have a range of 50 miles and the internal combustion engine bumps that number up to 300. The Revero looks like a sports car from the front but it is a four-door sedan so there is ample room for your friends or family, who you know are going to be begging you for a ride.
There’s no shortage of smartwatches and fitness trackers out right now, but few can stand up the Mission. Designed for people who are really getting after it and not just counting steps, the Mission is water resistant to 100 meters and has a built-in GPS so it works without your phone (which isn’t water resistant to 100 meters). In addition to all the standard wearable features, the smartwatch also has preloaded apps that will tell you real-time conditions at your favorite surf and ski spots.
