The Want List: 5 Things We’re Coveting This Week: Rogue

Rogue

To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.

DISCOMMON X JAMES BRAND SWELL KNIFE
$380, thejamesbrand.com
The creatives behind Discommon and James Brand share a love of surfing, so when it came time for the two brands to work together, incorporating the ocean was a no-brainer. Modifying James Brand’s popular folding knife, the Chapter, the collaboration features a titanium and aluminum handle that has been machined to look like an incoming swell of waves. The pattern isn’t just for aesthetics. It also contributes to the ergonomic way the knife, which has a 2.33-inch satin-finished blade, rests in your hand.

MERCEDES-BENZ CONCEPT X-CLASS
Price unavailable, mercedes-benz.com
Yes, what you see before you is a truck. A truck with Mercedes-Benz’s famous three-pointed star emblem on it. To eliminate the only real gap in Mercedes’ roster of automobiles, the automaker revealed a new concept, the X-Class family of pickup trucks. Consisting of two vehicles, a stylish explorer and powerful adventurer (above), they aim to be the first premium pickup. But they are more than just luxury vehicles. Mercedes says the trucks will have a V6 diesel engine and be capable of carrying 1.1 tons in their beds and towing 3.5 tons. And unlike most concept vehicles, Mercedes has actual plans to put a version of the X-Class into production starting in 2017.

SKULLCANDY BARRICADE
$79.99, skullcandy.com
Skullcandy’s new Barricade speaker is reasonably-priced enough that if it broke, you wouldn’t be heartbroken. But good luck breaking it. The speaker measures 4.6 x 3.7 inches and can take a beating. Both impact resistant and waterproof, you can take it on any adventure and it has eight hours of battery life so you can keep the party going.

DODECAL
$96, dodecal.com
Getting excited about a calendar isn’t an easy thing to do, even if it’s a Garfield one where he talks about how much he loves lasagne each month. But the DodeCal is the rare calendar that stops you in your tracks. Constructed of sycamore wood, the 12-sided object has all the months and days laser engraved on each face. It won’t alert you when you have a meeting coming up but finding out what day of the week your mother’s birthday falls on has never been cooler.
