To quote Madonna (something I’m not particularly fond of), “We are living in a material world.” To help you figure out which of the millions of material goods swirling around us is worth spending your hard-earned cash on, we have put together The Want List, consisting of the items we really love this week.
MUHAMMAD ALI LIMITED EDITION PRINT
Photographer Walter Iooss Jr. probably shot your favorite photo of your favorite athlete, whether that’s Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, or Walter Payton. (He also took that photo of Cheryl Tiegs in a mesh one-piece for Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue.) Now limited edition prints of some of Iooss’s most memorable photos are being sold as part of Mr Porter’s latest Sonic Editions series. Each photo, like this one of Muhammad Ali from 1967, is individually numbered and limited to only 100 prints.
DANNER x TANNER GOODS MOUNTAIN PASS RANDOLPH
Anyone who saw the movie Wild knows how necessary a good pair of Danner hiking boots can be. Danner teamed up with its Portland, OR neighbor Tanner Goods on the Mountain Pass Randolph Boot. The leather on the upper comes from Chicago tannery Horween. These boots, as they say, are made from walking and they will last much longer than your crush on Reese Witherspoon.
From $80,000, zarooqmotors.com
One thing the Middle East has in abundance, other than oil, is sand. So it makes sense that an automaker from the United Arab Emirates built a badass dune buggy. The SandRacer from Zarooq Motors is designed to blast through sand in off-road races, but is also street legal. It boasts a little over a foot of ground clearance and the 304-horsepower engine helps the SUV reach a top speed of 124 miles per hour. The first editions of the SandRacer are expected to be ready early next year.
NFL UGLY SWEATER
The whole ugly holiday sweater thing used to be about unintentional comedy. Now it is very intentional. Still, there is something strangely satisfying about sporting a hideous piece of knitwear at this time of year. The NFL is even getting in on the act with a collection of sweaters. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen Peyton Manning’s mug stitched in acrylic.
REIGNING CHAMP x SPALDING ONE FOR ONE BASKETBALL
With all the tempting food at this time of year (just one more brownie!), we need to seize any chance for exercise, so why not get some shots up and channel your inner Steph Curry. Reigning Champ’s Spalding ball is black with specks of white, giving it a unique look. And in keeping with the holiday spirit, Reigning Champ will donate a ball to a community sports program for every one sold.
