Downton Abbey is on the verge of premiering its sixth, and final, season in the US, and last night stars Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Hugh Bonneville (Lord Robert) and Allen Leech (Tom Branson) stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where the host made what’s been a self-evident point since the series first caught fire in the States: We like it, in part, because of the very posh, “plummy” British accents. So Colbert decided to go ahead and ruin that for everyone.
Watch in horror/delight as Dockery, Bonneville and Leech read out a real Downton scene in the best American accents they can muster, from the most convincing (Bonneville) to the most disturbing (Leech). Now imagine Mr. Carson doing something like this and ruin your fandom of the show forever.
Downton Abbey returns January 3 on PBS.
