Ghostbusters slimed its special brand of ectoplasm all over YouTube with a trailer this morning, and the first look at the franchise reboot, coming to theaters July 15, is pretty promising.
The nostalgia elements—the ECTO-1 ghostmobile, the jumpsuits, the proton packs—are there for fans of the earlier films. The chemistry between Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones jibes well. And the slime—good lord, the slime—is everywhere. There’s more slime in that trailer than in a You Can’t Do That on Television slime supercut.
Word had fanned out overnight that the trailer would post this morning, and social gabbers were waiting at the digital door when it went up at 9 a.m. ET. There were 6,000 comments on the YouTube page in the first two hours, and #Ghostbusters started trending worldwide on Twitter almost immediately after the trailer went live.
