April is a bad month for those who enjoy Netflix-binging Joss Whedon’s TV shows: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse all disappear from the streaming service on April 1. But there’s a whole host of new material replacing it, including a lot of Netflix Original shows and movies, including Italian pregnancies, a look into the world of online porn and a new series in which Bill Nye explains science for younger minds of all ages. Here’s the pick of what to watch on Netflix this month—as well as a full guide to what’s leaving and arriving on the streaming service in April. No fooling.

GREMLINS (1984)
Sure, it’s a few months too late to properly enjoy the fact that it’s a Christmas movie at heart, but Joe Dante’s pitch perfect parody of monster movies—that’s also a pretty great monster movie in its own right—can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Come for the nostalgia of the rules, stay for the fact that you’re going to end up wanting a mogwai of your own before too long.

DEAR WHITE PEOPLE: SEASON 1 (2017)
Expanding the indie social satire from a movie into a full TV show might seem like a stretch, but Justin Simien manages to make it look easy. Then again, it’s not like a show about race relations in the U.S. (and specifically, in a university filled with racial tension) doesn’t have a lot of material to work with these days.

HOT GIRLS WANTED: TURNED ON (2017)
Here’s another expansion of a movie into a TV series. The documentary Hot Girls Wanted caught some flak when it was first released for skewing against the sex workers it portrayed. Whether or not this new version will fall prey to the same problems remains to be seen, but there will be space for more nuance in its six episode run.

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000: THE RETURN (2017)
Fans have been waiting far too long for a return to space’s worst cinema (The original ended in 1999, after all), and how it’s finally here, thanks to Netflix and a crowdfunding campaign. But will the new cast (which includes Jonah Ray, Patton Oswalt and Felicia Day) live up to more than a decade’s worth of expectations?

SLAM (2017)
If it seems unusual for Netflix to premiere an Italian drama about a surprise teen pregnancy, perhaps it helps to know that the movie is based on a novel by Nick Hornby, the man behind High Fidelity and About A Boy. Chances are people will be willing to put up with subtitles for this one.
