Happy 21st, Hellboy!
Now that the demonic superhero is of legal drinking age (his comics first appeared 21 years ago), Rogue Ales is brewing a limited-edition red ale to mark the occasion. Rogue calls it the Right Hand of Doom.
The 6.8-percent-ABV beer’s label features art by Mike Mignola, creator of the character. “If Hellboy was real, I guess he’d finally be able to buy me a beer,” Mignola tells Entertainment Weekly. Rogue, based in Oregon, collaborated with Hellboy’s publisher, Dark Horse Comics, on the project. Mike Richardson, president of Dark Horse, said in a statement that he “loved the idea of two independent, Portland-based companies coming together to create something new that would be both fun for fans and worthy of Mike Mignola’s creative legacy.”
The Right Hand of Doom will debut at Portland’s Things From Another World comics store on Feb. 20. Mignola also will be there signing books. If you can’t make it to Portland, you can buy bottles on Rogue.com. The bottles will begin shipping Feb. 23.
