Yeah, 2016 is the year we’ll finally see Batman and Superman toe-to-toe on the big screen, but that revelation is perhaps obscuring a bigger one: In 2017, we get a Wonder Woman movie. It’s a huge step for female superheroes and superhero movies in general, and last night, during a TV special designed to promote its entire Justice League tentpole, Warner Bros. finally gave us a look at the film, which stars Gal Gadot as the titular Amazonian warrior.

While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is a present-day tale, Wonder Woman will underline the immortality of the character, taking us back to World War I, and to a time when Diana Prince decides to fight for the world of men when her fellow Amazonians have already decided it’s just not worth it. The footage we see isn’t much, but it’s sure to provoke massive excitement among fans. Just the sight of seeing Wonder Woman on horseback, sword in hand, riding into battle, is enough to make it clear to me that this movie can’t get here soon enough.

Wonder Woman arrives June 23, 2017.
