When Hizzoner got a load of the giant poker chip portrait of Hugh Hefner peering down at him over the headboard on the set, he pleaded to have the photo removed. "I don't want Hef watching me. From my perspective, that would be like the FBI watching me."
Irina worked overtime to make her photographer comfortable and to get his creative juices flowing as she positioned herself on the king-sized bed. "I've represented the toughest guys in the world and never had a drop of sweat," the mayor said. "Now, one woman makes my hands shake."
"We'll take it really slow, walk you through everything and you'll be really safe," Irina comforted him in her sultry Russian accent as he mastered the camera.
When Mayor Goodman's first digital photographs of Irina appeared on the monitor, Wayda lamented with a laugh, "Now I'm out of a job!"
Pleased with what he saw, the humble mayor pronounced, "I do have an artistic eye, don't I?" Over the next hour, Mayor Goodman photographed Irina in a variety of poses and in a number of skimpy outfits, encountering only one real technical glitch -- having to defog his glasses.
Afterward, with Irina in her lingerie, the mayor performed an impromptu bedside ceremony where he presented her with his personalized poker chip embossed with his caricature and the words "The Happiest Mayor of the World's Greatest City."
As the lights were turned off and the set struck, Mayor Goodman told Playboy.com, "It went a lot easier than expected. I was as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof when I came in here. But I had a beautiful woman to photograph and I think we did it with a great deal of taste."
Irina agreed. "He was great. He treated me with a lot of respect, he was the nicest person to work with, he was very open to suggestions and we all had a lot of fun."
Only in Vegas can a mayor have this kind of fun.
