The Dirty Dozen
Bret Michaels talks about sex on airplanes, on the hood of a car and on weed.
Of course, all bands have their groupies. But Poison has raised the task of getting gorgeous girls backstage to an art form. First of all, Bret Michaels, guitarist C.C. Deville, bassist Bobby Dall and drummer Rikki Rockett are about as fun-loving and mellow as they come. Bret beams like a concert strobe when he notes that the venue at Poison's Detroit date for this tour sold out of beer. "And in the 32 years of the Burlington Rockfest," he adds, "Poison sold the most beer ever!" And why not? Who wouldn't want to party with a band that sings the classic, I Hate Every Bone in Your Body But Mine?

The job of finding the finest "talent" at each show falls to John "Smoothie" DeMarco and John "Big John" Murray of the Poison Police, the band's security detail. It's about six o'clock, still a few hours before Bret will be promising "action" to the crowd. The pair are mingling with the crowd, asking a sexy select few if they'd like to go backstage after the show to meet the band. If a girl seems uncomfortable, they move on -- there's never a shortage of willing women. They try to find single girls -- no one wants hurt feelings. Still, "it's amazing how many girls you get out here, whom you ask if they have a boyfriend or a husband, and they say 'No,'" Smoothie says. "And then you get a pissed-off boyfriend banging on the door of the bus."

Smoothie approaches a gorgeous blonde. Her name's Jackie. In one breath, Jackie explains how much she loves Poison and how when she was a kid, she used to imagine she was Barbie and Bret Michaels was Ken...but Smoothie had his mind made up the moment he saw her. Would Jackie and her girlfriend like to meet Poison? Yes, Jackie would like that. Smoothie writes the show date on two passes and tells Jackie where to go after the show.

Around 10 p.m., the band quits the stage after ripping through Fallen Angel. Chicago rock station WLUP has brought a dozen bodacious babes backstage for the last few songs. Bret returns and brings the women out onstage, to the deafening cheers of the crowd. Amid a blizzard of confetti, Poison wails through a cover of Kiss' Rock 'n' Roll All Night. The girls grind with Bret, scream "party every day" into the mike and air-guitar next to C.C. and Bobby. It's a free-for-all party.
