Attack Ads

Wild, over-the-top political TV ads

Their intent is clear: Slam the opposition and sway public opinion in their candidate’s favor. We’ve all seen it before with Papa Bush’s infamous “Willie Horton” ad against Michael Dukakis, or more recently with Obama reconstituting an old-school MacIntosh spot to smash Hillary. It’s clear that a candidate’s stand on the issues isn’t enough to win an election—they also have to know how to sling mud. As we grind toward Election Day on November 4th, we’re sure to see more vicousness from both sides, but before that, we take a look at some of the other odd, funny, mean and ridiculous attack ads from the past.
