The Whigs have been likened to a garage band, but that's not entirely accurate. Rather, the Athens, Georgia trio plays like a garage band, which is another way of saying they tackle every track with maximum rock and roll fury.
It doesn't matter that most of the tunes recall any number of blatant influences, it's the way the group dives right in like they're the first musicians in the world to plug in that really pays the bills.
If the full steam ahead approach tends to blur the songs together, that's fine, too.
The likes of "Production City," "Right Hand on my Heart" and "I Got Ideas" are so of a piece it's easy to make peace with their post-grunge power-pop clichés.
