Playboy.com: What's the deal with your name? It has a porn star ring to it.

Debbie Diamond: Well, there actually is a porn star named Debi Diamond. She's an old hag, and she stole my name.

PB: Can you prove it?

DD: I've been in bands for years, and my name's been in a lot of magazines around town. I was singing with this one band and my name was spelled "D-e-b-i," and then she spelled her name that way. How many girls named Deborah spell their name like that?

PB: Has that caused any confusion or problems in your personal life?

DD: Yeah. People at my school that I haven't seen in years thought I had become a porn star. It was awful. My real last name is Diamonde, but people just started calling me Debbie Diamond because it's easier.

PB: If a career in rock 'n' roll doesn't pan out, at least you could get a job as a stripper and keep the name.

WHO IS SHE?:

Despite her glitzy name, singer/songwriter/guitarist Debbie Diamond is not, nor ever was, a porn star or stripper (a fact she immediately clears up for us). Still, that doesn't mean the Januaries' sultry vocalist lacks sex appeal. Debbie, an LA and Europe music scene veteran, has been in and out of bands for years now as both a bassist and backup singer. Her current stint as frontwoman puts Debbie in the red-hot spotlight and, boy, does this natural blonde beauty shine.

WHAT HAS SHE DONE?:

The Januaries formed in January 1998, when Debbie and former Low Pop Suicide founder Rick Boston realized a shared musical vision and combined creative juices. Previously, Debbie spent her time bouncing between bands such as Atlantic Records' Ugly Beauty and underground faves such as Magpie and Pink Fuzz.
