Friday night's 4 hours and 45 minutes of pure ugliness that culminated in a 14-11 Yankees win over the Red Sox — the Bombers' second of the day over their AL East rivals — had me thinking about other slugfests.
Immediately, this came to mind.
I mean, are ya kiddin' me? Sure, the Yankees put up 26 in two games in Beantown on Friday, but hell, the Phils and Cubbies (at the time, only 71 years removed from their last title!) both nearly did that on their own.
And if you ever want to illustrate just how much longer baseball games take these days, note that Friday's slobfest (aka, the longest 9-inning game in MLB history) that saw 25 runs plated took 43 minutes longer than the '79 beer-leaguer that looked more like an Eagles-Bears game.
