Perhaps our intern Lynsey Gilchrist is feeling a tad homesick. See for yourself:
I’m spending my summer in New York enjoying the heat, but I miss the summer slush out in my collegiate home of Colorado where the real ski bunnies come out when the slopes heat up.
At Arapahoe Basin in Summit County, Colo., ski season is just coming to an end. The snow is slushy this time of year, but for the true die-hards, it’s better than waiting for “real” ski season to begin again in October. The ski area entices visitors with a its Festival of the Beerpubs and Shakin’ at the Basin concert series.
A drive or even flight to Colorado is undoubtedly cheaper than a trip to the Southern Hemisphere, where the more legitimate summer skiing takes place. Plus, with the warm weather and bright Colorado sun, these ski bums don skimpy bikini tops and shorts with their thick socks and ski boots.
