If you've had enough of Fantastic Transforming Spider Wizards of the Caribbean this summer, do yourself a favor this weekend and check out Talk To Me, the new film starring Don Cheadle and Chiwetel Ejiofer.
Set in the 1960s, it's based on the true story of man named Petey Greene, who got out of prison and became the top DJ in Washington, DC. Greene was one of the progenitors of the modern shock jock: brash, irreverent, political and very funny, but also very soulful, as we see in the scenes that follow the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
But Talk To Me is really a buddy movie, in which Greene is matched with a station manager, played by Ejiofer as a rather more right-angle, Sidney Poitierish-type individual, who nonetheless sees Greene's potential. The two are terrific together. Playing the DJ, Cheadle gives his customary wonderful performance, but he's matched every step of the way by Ejiofer, who seems to impress every time out. Also on hand lending her sexy snap, crackle and pop is Taraji P. Henson.
And if you liked the checked jackets in The Bronx Is Burning, you'll love the checked pants here.
