The new film by Paul Haggis In the Valley of Elah has been getting terrific reviews (see David Denby in The New Yorker, for example). The film is based on an article by Mark Boal that appeared in Playboy in October 2004, which you can read here, and on other reports by Mark on incidents of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder among Iraqi veterans that appeared in subsequent issues.
Last week, Playboy helped sponsor the premiere of the film at New York’s Lincoln Square theater. The event was held for the benefit of the Accomplished Literary Society, which helps emerging authors. In his remarks before the film, Haggis said that when he signed with his talent agency, he asked to see "all the articles that you thought were good that couldn’t get made." We’re very glad that Mark’s article captured his attention, and that Haggis proved that the picture could be made.
Here, Playboy’s editorial director Chris Napolitano (left) congratulates Paul Haggis before the premiere.

I'm a HUGE fan of Haggis, who it goes without saying is one of the top tier, crème de la crème of prolific screenwriters in Hollywood.
Where has Jason Patric been?? I loved him as 'Cary' in "Your Friends & Neighbors." He was excellent. Look forward to watching him in the new Haggis feature. I also hope this is a role that the talented Susan Sarandon can sink her teeth into.
