Is the NFL too strict on touchdown celebrations?

So if I am not mistaken, this “No fun rule,” that bans prolonged and excessive celebration while a player is on the field or in the end zone, was imposed to promote sportsmanship. And it does have fans such as Marty Schottenheimer, who feel that the game needs to be about the team, not the individual. So now not only did I disagree with his coaching skills but I am also going to disagree with the NFL being too strict on touchdown celebrations.

Since when is having a little bite of fun considered bad sportsmanship? When a touchdown is made, the crowd goes wild! That is one of the most exciting parts of the game. The fans are happy, the players are happy, it is a reason for celebration. I don’t feel it takes away any emphasis on the team and I certainly don’t feel that making a Snow Angel after a touch down is rubbing it in the opponents face.

Haven’t you ever heard the saying, “There’s no crying in football.” I seriously don’t think a 300 pound defensive line man is going to get his feelings hurt because the offensive team is having a little fun with their victorious moment. And really the game already lasts 3 hours, what is another 30 seconds of laughter? I feel that the penalties are excessive, to penalize a team 15 yards on the ensuing kick for being silly …really? Fining a player thousands of dollars for showing some personality...really?

Trust me, players will let you know when they feel like a touchdown celebration is insulting to them. Remember when Terrell Owens thought it would be cute to run out in the middle of the Dallas field and dance on the star after his touchdown against them when he was playing for the 49ers? As an avid Dallas fan I thought he had some nerve to dance on our star that way. Well remember how he thought it was so clever that when he scored another touchdown against the Cowboys he went back to do it again? Only this time, George Teague wasn’t going to have anyone disrespect his team that way, so he rammed into TO and made it clear that he was crossing the line. Trust me other players will let it be know if they find the touch down celebration insulting.

As far as the pretend mooning to the stands, the sleeping on the end zone, mocking video cameras, pretending to be pregnant with the ball and pointing to your pregnant wife in the stands, and my all time favorite performing CPR on the ball, come on where is everyone’s sense of humor? I think the guys should just set aside a penalty fund and continue to make me laugh!

I totally agree with you. Everyone should just relax a little and have some fun!

That was awesome when T.O. got nailed!!!! haha. I agree that they are way too strict. Chad Johnson is an entertainer out there regardless of any fines. I can see how some of it is taunting, but these are grown men!

Hi,

I Just have to say that she is to Gorgeous.

Bye
Thanks

NFL players are selected (in effect) from the most testosterone-rich and coached (in effect) to be proud as peacocks—and then they're expected to chill their blood the instant they realize they've won the game for their team. It seems cruel to legislate so far outside of human nature. Let them gloat a little in the heat of the moment.
