Last night, we had the privilege of meeting Russian soprano Anna Netrebko at an event here in Manhattan hosted by jeweler Chopard. Netrebko is opera’s leading babe, and a true diva in the non-J.Lo sense.
She was very keen that we inspect the conspicuous Chopard wares on her neck, ears and fingers. When we asked a handler for a ballpark total he shrugged, “What, maybe two million?” And when we talked about setting up an interview she turned to the same guy and said, “No! Not that day! I need one day for shopping! One day!” For a better explanation of her than we could hope to give in a simple blog posting, read this New York Times Magazine profile.
Much Veuve Clicquot champagne (vintage '99) and Petrossian caviar were also on hand, but we confess that, foodwise, we were just as taken with an ingenious dessert item that can only be described as cheesecake on a stick.
