Most players talk smack, or instigate on the line…is encroachment a joke?

Haven't you ever heard the saying, “Can't you take a joke?” Yes, I think when encroachment is used in football it is all just a joke. Half the time they are probably talking smack about each others Momma's. Not to mention, I don't think any of the guys really ever take it personal. It's part of boys being boys. I would do it too. I'd talk about your girlfriend, your Momma, your cat and your dog. Now if I was off the field and someone started "encroaching" me, we'd have a problem. But in football I think everyone does it as part of just talking trash and having fun.

I agree with you to an extent, Pilar. Let's say someone is making fun of someone's mother, father, sister, brother: That's acceptable. However, what if the linemen playing the Redskins starts talking smack about Sean Taylor? There is a point where it can be taken too far.

Hey guys,
I need to say, I agree with Pilar on this one. These are grown men and I'm sure a few people talking trash is included somewhere in their millions of dollars paycheck. I do not even think that refs should call a penalty for it. It is like a teacher giving you a slap on the wrist for cursing in school.
