Intern Seth Fiegerman has been studying the world’s wealthiest men. He has some breaking news:
During these last few weeks, every news outlet has been flooded with any change in the status of the primary elections, no matter how slight. Tuesday night, I too was glued in front of my television, taking bets on Hillary vs. Obama and praying that, given how close the votes were, we would not end up in some awful New Hampshire recount controversy. Our country can’t take another mess like that. This primary season is already long and complicated enough.
Yet, while we all have been fixated on these agents of political change, many of us may have overlooked a big change in the business world: Bill Gates is retiring. (Yes, that Bill Gates.) During his long tenure as the head of Microsoft, Gates has been labeled as everything from a loveable nerd to a monopolizing business bully. But in these last few years, he’s overhauled his image into a modern day Andrew Carnegie, giving away loads of his cash.
One can only wonder what happens when the world’s richest man retires. The truth is decidedly bland: he will remain chairman of Microsoft, but now work full time at his charity corporation. However, for his final keynote address before Microsoft, Gates took advantage of his famous friends and made a great mockumentary about his “last day.” The video does raise one interesting possibility: with more free time, will Bill Gates be a running mate for either Hillary or Obama if they are nominated? Watch the video to hear their answers.
