As Eliot Spitzer makes his way to the exit, Lt. Gov. David Patterson is preparing to move in the Governor’s Office. Accompanying him will be Charles O’Byrne, a former Jesuit priest who officiated at JFK Jr.’s wedding, and who is also a contributor to Playboy.
In our September 2002 issue, O’Byrne published an article called "Sex and Sanctity,’’ an account of his experiences in the priesthood. Talking about his time in the seminary, O’Byrne wrote: "I became aware that there was sex all around me—including relationships between Jesuits. One of my best friends, a virgin at 30, was surprised when his superior encouraged him to respond to the sexual overtures of an old Jesuit. When another friend fell in love with a woman, the seminary superiors supported hs relationship. In theology classes, certain priest-professors even shared information about their sex lives.’’
