This item from Jewlicious.com was news to us: “Josie Goldberg proudly declared that she will be Playboy’s first seriously pro-Israel Jewish centerfold appearing in Playboy next month.” Actually, Josie Goldberg was a Cybergirl in January, and it is not yet her destiny to be a Playmate. This was brought to our attention by Josie Goldberg, who explains, “I do come from grandparents who are Holocaust survivors, and I do support Israel. When I tested for Playmate I mentioned that if I got picked I would like the theme [of the pictorial] to be pro-Israel.” (If you just can’t get enough of the adorable and adorably misquotable Ms. Goldberg, be sure to tune in to Farmer Wants a Wife, premiering on the CW on April 30. As you can see from her profile, she is 52 years old, was born on an exotic island, and invented the game of tennis. “One thing I love,” she says, “is when my career wakes up and says ‘I don’t know where men are going.’” Too true!)

Comments on this entry:
If Josie Goldberg **were** to become a Playmate, she would certainly not be the first one to be Jewish (nor was Lindsey Vuolo, although that story too was widely circulated when she became Miss November 2001). For instance, Miss December 1966 Sue Bernard always described herself as a "nice Jewish girl" (never mind the Christmas setting of her centerfold!), and it was the theme of her Playmate text that she had been "Growing up Glamorous" as the daughter of the famous photographer "Bernard of Hollywood", Bruno Bernard, who was a refugee from Nazi Germany. As another example, Miss May 1969 Sally Sheffield reported in her Playmate text that she is fluent in Hebrew and that she spent eight months working in an Israeli kibbutz (artificially insemination hens!), so Josie Goldberg wouldn't be the first "seriously pro-Israel centerfold". In fact, she wouldn't even be the first Playmate to be named "Goldberg"! (That was Miss May 1981 Gina Goldberg, although her Playmate text duly noted that she was a Finn and her maiden name was "Verenius".)
In any case, we fans wish Josie Goldberg the best of luck in her continued modeling career with Playboy, and we all commend her for her honesty and diligence in reporting to you a mistake that was not one of her own doing. We join in expressing our sincere thanks to her for trying to set the record straight on a misleading press release that is typical of the media's labeling every Playboy model a "Playmate"!
And don't forget a Playboy model by the name of Barbara Klein, who went under the name of Barbi Benton (remember her?)
As you can see from her profile, she is 52 years old, was born on an exotic island, and invented the game of tennis. “One thing I love,” she says, “is when my career wakes up and says ‘I don’t know where men are going.’” Too true!
LOL I wish I'd written that!
She's 25, not 52. Ya got the digits transposed!
Fact checking? Who cares about fact checking?? Josie Goldberg may never be a Playmate, but she is, as you so aptly put it, "adorably misquotable."From her profile: "My friends would say my best qualities are: I am tall, beautiful, smart and very calculating… I am not a doormate."
Not a doormate. Words to live by. Thanks for the shout out Playboy and thanks to the words of wisdom Josie!
Hey Guys..
what up it your girl Josie Goldberg. I do have to say that PLAYBOY has had some centerfolds who said they were Jewish But Lindsey vulou is not full Jewish her dad was catholic Italian. So technically one has to be Jewish by mother and Father by conservative Judaism. Otherwise, if this would happen i would be so proud to do this theme. Supporting Israel is only one aspect of my idea that its the Jewish people's land. The other main idea is I love and admire all those troops who are fighting in the in the middle east for freedome for ISRAEL AND AMERICA.
Thank you TROOPS..YOUR SAVING ME!!!!!!!!
LOVE
JOSIE GOLDBERG
Confidential to RM Roxinger- just guessing here, but I'd wager that Ms. Goldberg didn't invent the game of tennis, either.
Two words: SUSAN BERNARD!!
Pretty as Josie Goldberg is, racial and cultural separatism on such a radical scale that Israel demonstrates and that Josie wants to some how portray in her photos, while original, is never sexy to me, quite the contrary.
The country of Israel is beautiful, the original concept of creating the state of Israel had all the right intentions but their policies have gone too far in being exclusionary and 90% of the time to constructively ask why this is and the possibility of perhaps changing things a bit in almost any circle is to be unfairly branded "anti Israeli" or worse.
I am very impressed however that she, along with myself and my mother, supports our troops, realizes and mentions their sacrifice as my brother has been there for over year this week and we pray everyday for his safe return.

Dear Amanda
I would like to show so much respect for your brother and i admire his courageous efforts as well as all the other troops. I will pray for him as well and I am sure he will make it home. But one has to understand that America and Israel are ALLIES. Our enemy is fanatical terriorist and their fanatical Muslim religion who want to kill all the Jews, chrisitins and they want to be in charge of our world. It is because of Israel and America that we have a power team and we will kick some but because we have one of the strongest and most powerful contries. I love President Bush i think he has done a phenomenal job, but we have to fight till the end.. You know when someone has cancer you try to kill the cancer and the cells around them. Same with terriosim, we need to kill all the excess skin in this case cells for terriosm. Thanks for your support..
p.s. I read a good book
" Final Dawn Over Jerusalem"
Hi Josie,
John Hagge is a tele-vangelist whom claimed that Katrina was judgment of God against the people of New Orleans. Alan Dershowitz's pro Israel books are about as far right as I can go in that regard and as much as I don't agree with him he at least has his heart in how he feels (even when that heart says to 'bulldoze on command'), Haggee just seems like a nut case to me. I would read what British Statesman Tony Benn and Jimmy Carter have to say on Israel, even if you are sworn to disagreement out of loyalty to your homeland their opinions are well worth reading.
I would argue that one's historical perspective needs to stretch back not just to Israel post 9/11 but US involvement in the Middle East from the coup in Iran following their attempts to nationalize their own oil supply, which installed the Shah and made the US the sworn enemy of Iran to arming the Taliban against the Soviet Union during the Afghanistan war to the Suez canal. Most of what the US has done in that region borders on colonialism.
It's obvious to many in the Middle East, radical or not, that the US has invaded and killed after choosing sides.
And yes, I do know that we are allies with Israel and sadly we were also allies with South Africa when apartheid was in full swing. Senator John McCain whom I respectfully disagree with on many issues, was on The View today mentioning how much regret he has about supporting Apartheid's reign of terror. The blacks and colored peoples of South Africa were also viewed as a cancer, driven from their homeland as Palestinians have been and live with the psychological and social damage as do many whites who are now too becoming victims of reverse racist violence due to deep scarring wounds in the entire psyche and economics of that region.
Following the Camp David Accords in 1978, the US was there to broker peace between nations and now we have morphed in three decades into a lap/bull dog ready to over look human rights as well as public opinion and go to war for a country that many American citizens would not be allowed to live in nor own property in because we are not Jews.
Don't think that I have zero empathy though I fully support Israel's right to exist but not as racially and culturally separatist state. As an anti-racist I debate, vociferously at times, on You Tube with racial extremists who are feeding off the anti-war sentiment and it's frightening to what extent antisemitism is making a comeback, especially among under 30's, largely due to the unpopularity of the war and the lingering doubts about why we signed on in the first place.
The war in Iraq is bankrupting this country, antagonizing an enemy which becomes more radicalized and angry with each growing day and created a feeling of depression that casts a moral malaise over the US to large extent. How can we raise children today with values when all the technology and riches this country has can't even keep us out of war?
I do dislike many things about the radical Muslim way of life but than I look at the recent polygamist cult that was just busted in Texas and ask myself why the US can't work for human rights in it's own back yard?
I know that Israel is a beautiful country, many people I grew up with in Piedmont, California either were born there or have a relative living there.I also applaud the fact that they 'walk the walk' and make everyone serve in the military for two years. But the expansionism has gone too far. I pary that Israel's will to continue does not continue to breed extremism on both sides.
Thanks for your kind words for my brother, they will be passed on.
-Super Amanda
Hey Amanda,

Josie,
I so agree with you, we really are lucky to be Americans. lol I think you are the first person who's ever asked me if I'm a lawyer, I'm actually singer and an actress and in my free time I'm a political activist in the Berkeley California tradition plus I teach pilates. You can click on my name and get my You Tube channel.
One of my goals is to prove that you can be very sexy and also intellectual and I want to encourage more pin ups to also be brainy and political so it's awesome that you have political convictions and the guts to speak out as such a beautiful woman. You definitely have a new fan!
Cheers,
