After a slew of disappointing J-horror remakes, one comes along and gets it right. The Eye, based on the Pang Brothers film of the same name, is now available on DVD and Blu-ray from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
This ghostly flick stars hottie Jessica Alba as Sydney Wells, a blind violinist who undergoes a cornea transplant to restore her vision. While learning to cope with her newly gained sense of sight, she soon starts seeing horrific and frightening images and has no idea whether it’s a side effect of her surgery, her imagination, or maybe something horrifyingly real. She decides to seek out the origin of her donor and must face further terrifying visions along the way. Well shot, creepy and smoothly paced, this horror flick is definitely worth a look. It may not be as dark and atmospheric as the original, but it is certainly a step up compared to most recent remakes. Special features include four featurettes and some eye-gouging deleted scenes that make you wonder how dark this film could’ve been if it were rated R. In the end, like its lead star, this movie is definitely appealing to the eye.
