You can’t turn on the television, walk down the street or surf the Web without hearing something about going green. But has the obsession of going green gone too far when we let it creep in between the sheets?  Here’s something to wrap your head around: green sex.

Couples are altering their sex routines to benefit the earth one organic pair of panties at a time.  TreeHugger even suggests romancing your lover with organic massage oils, fair trade chocolate or a bottle of biodynamic red wine.  But it doesn’t stop there.  Throw out the Egyptian cotton and get busy on some bamboo sheets.  And since 43 percent of Americans admit to using a sex toy, why not go green with that as well?  TreeHugger warns that many of our favorite toys are made out of chemicals called phthalates, a substance used to soften hard plastics like PVC and provide that jelly feeling.  Instead, look for toys made from glass, metal, silicone, hard plastics or elastomers.  And don’t forget those rechargeable batteries.

The catch is you still have to find someone that’s green as well.  “Nothing’s quite worse than meeting some really promising guy or girl and then realizing that he or she is an Escalade-driving, non-recycling, Earth fucker-upper,” TreeHugger says.  “What are you going to do? Try to reform them? Sleep with them anyway and try to ignore their unconscious ways? Forget it. Go for the green lover.”  That’s right. You can even make your dating life eco-friendly.

“It feels wonderful to have a ‘green’ partner, someone who understands and values my efforts in support of environmental and social sustainability,” Shandin gushes about his new romance with eco-friendly Kristen on GreenSingles.com.  His sappy love rant continues on, leading into the next happy green couple’s testimony.  Photos of the treehugging couples outline the page, making the site look like a virtual ad for vegetable gardening.  But Green Singles isn’t the only dating site dedicated to friends of the environment.  Sites like Earth Wise Singles and Green Passions litter the online dating community as well.  But don’t worry.  All the sites are made with 100% recycled electrons! No trees were destroyed and no animals were harmed.

What does the ENW in "The ENW Color of Sex" stand for??

A mistake! That's the way it was submitted to me, and I thought it must be some sort of newfangled acronym.

Sorry about that, folks.

Very sweet! Us Berkeley California born and raised gals have known all this for awhile though...
