project_runway.jpgIntern Lindsay Silberman explores whether watching an Emmy-nominated fashion-design competition reality show can affect your sex life.

The summer heat is here, and that means that once again  Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum will join forces for a new season of Project Runway. And, as each new season begins, many male viewers pose the same question: will watching Project Runway make me gay?

As it turns out, there is no scientific evidence supporting the idea that watching any television show will make you gay. But there is, as it turns out, substantial anecdotal evidence that watching Project Runway can make you seem, shall we say, cooler in the eyes of your female counterparts. Here is some additional evidence to support this observation:

1. People on the program make references to Playboy constantly. For example, in Wednesday's premiere episode, Klum called one design "Playboy Bunny gone grunge."

2. When it comes to the women on the program, a LOT are HOT. There’s Klum, the supermodels who showcase the designs, and the female contestants. The girl to guy ratio is almost 3:1.

3. The fashion isn’t all about what women care about. Past challenges include creating a menswear look for Tiki Barber and a sexy wrestling uniform for the WWE Divas.

4. The show won't be airing on Lifetime, "the estrogen network," until next year.

Trust me—give the show a chance. Try working it into a conversation. Almost any girl will be impressed with a guy who can comfortably discuss whether Michael Kors’ criticism last episode was harsh or justified.
