Christa Speck, Playboy’s Miss September 1961, was born in Danzig, Germany (now Gdańsk, Poland). Christa was working as a bank secretary when she was discovered by Playboy. In 1962 she was named Playmate of the Year, making her the first foreign-born model to earn the title. Christa’s centerfold can be seen in the 1978 movie Animal House, which takes place in 1962.
After appearing in Playboy, Christa worked as a Bunny in Playboy’s Chicago nightclub and lived in the Playboy Mansion. During the 1960s she was featured in several pictorials about life at the Mansion. Playboy editors and readers named Christa one of their “10 favorite Playmates from the magazine’s first decade.” She later married children’s TV producer Marty Krofft, and they had three daughters together.
In a 1961 interview Christa said she liked men with “integrity and ambition.” Her turnoffs: “rock ‘n roll music and indecisive men.” Christa’s hobbies included jazz, swimming ,and dancing, and her favorite sport was acrobatics.
