About Claudia Schiffer

Guess. Chanel. Blond hair. Blue eyes. Claudia Schiffer became a well-known supermodel with her instantly recognizable ad campaigns and equally instantly recognizable features, and she paved the way for models to appear on mainstream magazines. Her Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Harper’s Bazaar covers, among others, were the first model cover appearance for those publications. Talk about trailblazing.

Once one of the five original supermodels (alongside Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Crawford), Claudia still has a contact with L’Oreal and has appeared in high-end women’s fashion ads: Dolce & Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent, and others. The scene is different from the “heroin-chic” lifestyle it once was, she told The London Evening Standard in an interview. “Supermodels like we once were don’t exist anymore,” she said.

Claudia has parlayed her superstar status into several off-shoot career moves, including a series of exercise videos, movie roles, and cameo appearances—including in Friends & Lovers, Love Actually, and Zoolander. In 2011, she launched her own line of women’s sweaters and sweaterdresses, Claudia Schiffer Cashmere.

She lives in Suffolk with her husband, British film producer and director Matthew Vaughn. The couple has three children.

For five years in the late 90s, Claudia was engaged to magician David Copperfield and appeared as his assistant in several stunts (including being sawed in half). The two later called it off.

Claudia has supported UNICEF for years, supporting the “Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS” campaign, and is currently a UK Goodwill ambassador.

“As a new mother, I want to give my children the best start in life, but millions of children affected with AIDS don’t live with such certainty,” she says in a UNICEF video. “We can make a difference in a child’s life by joining with UNICEF to ensure that mothers and children are given the treatment that they deserve.”
