Susan Henson, whose grace under pressure was exquisitely exhibited in her Casting Calls '02 debut, wants to take her sangfroid one step further as a contestant on NBC's "Fear Factor." She's waiting for the final word from show producers, so we'll keep you posted on any developments. Meanwhile, have no fear -- you can absolutely, positively see her in Girlfriends, on newsstands July 15....Thanks to US magazine for giving "Married by America"'s Jill Nicolini a plug for her appearance in Blondes, Brunettes & Redheads. But, hey, we actually found her before MBA featured her -- in the fall '01 College Girls issue. Nah nah nah nah nah nah!...If you visit any coffee shop in Ontario, you'll most likely see a poster of 2002's Wet & Wild cover girl Zdenka Micka on the wall in an ad for a popular brew brand. And she'll be signing images and selling swimsuit posters July 11, 12 and 13 at the Molson Indy in Toronto....We were thrilled that Kelly Monaco (Miss April '97) was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her work on "Port Charles." So, OK, she pulled a Susan Lucci and didn't win, but she was honored by the recognition. Don't miss Kelly's sultry pool pictorial featured in the current issue of Girls of Summer....Special Editions hosted the 8th annual lingerie party at the Chicago headquarters on May 23. Attendance at the company-wide lingerama was huge, mostly due to the array of sexy Special Editions models including Christina Linehan, LaTasha Marzolla, Lorez Fields, Jennifer Haase, Sara Alvarado and April Renee, who more than complied with the dress code.
Reality Test for Cleary
In case you've missed UPN's entry into the reality-show sweepstakes - "America's Next Top Model" -- SE's own Katie Cleary was selected to be one of the original 10 competitors vying for a contract with Revlon, management by the Wilhelmina modeling agency and a guaranteed appearance in Marie Claire magazine. Supermodel Tyra Banks, the show's executive producer, hosts and advises the hopefuls through this modeling boot camp, as cameras cover the proceedings 24/7. Sadly, the panel of four judges voted Katie off the show on the second episode for being "too Playboyish." We asked her to discuss why, and to share her experience with us.
PB: Were you approached to be on the show, or did you audition?
KC: I sent in a video tape. Tyra called a week later and told me to pack my bags for LA!
PB: Was the tension between contestants as real as it appeared?
KC: Oh, yes. A lot was edited, but the tension was so thick at times you could cut it with a knife!
PB: Do you think doing Lingerie hurt your chances to win?
KC: Well, the judges weren't too happy because they wanted to lift a girl from obscurity to fame -- and I wasn't obscure enough for them. And it gave them an excuse to categorize me -- they considered me "too sexy." What's that all about? Like Tyra Banks isn't "too sexy?" Come on now! When it was all over, though, I took it as a compliment, because who wants to be plain and not sexy?
PB: So a supermodel can't be sexy these days?
KC: All supermodels already are sexy -- look at Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret! Frankly, I have no idea what the judges were talking about. They totally contradicted themselves on the show. If you asked most guys, they'd think supermodels are plenty sexy -- that's why they are supermodels!
PB: Was it any fun, or did the scrutiny and competition make it all a big drag?
KC: I had a blast! I just wish my work for Playboy hadn't counted against me.
PB: Would you do something like this again?
KC: In a heartbeat!
