On September 22 she becomes the first victim of the season in CSI: Miami's premier episode, playing -- is this a stretch, or what? -- a model. It's just make-believe, OK? Fans can see she's the picture of health in the September/October issue of Lingerie.... Last month Amy Miller shook her booty at the X-Girls show at Las Vegas's Aladdin Hotel, and this month the newly Lorenzo-less Shauna Sand, Miss May '96, becomes the featured X-Mate. If you can't get to The Strip to see Shauna, watch for Playmate Tishara Cousino's recurring role on James Caan's new NBC drama, Las Vegas, premiering on September 15.... SE's own Kena Zakia outsang, outdanced and outhustled nearly 7,000 other applicants to make the finals of rapper Nelly's hunt for a spokesmodel for his new line of women's apparel, Apple Bottoms. Film crews from MTV and VH1 were there to tape the semis and they'll record the finals in Vegas for later airing as the six girls from L.A. (that would be Kena), St. Louis, New York, Miami, Atlanta and Houston vie for top honors. Time slot for the coverage is TBA, but Kena's November/December Lingerie appearance will come out right on schedule on October 14.... Over the Labor Day weekend hundreds of thousands of diehard bikers descended upon Milwaukee to celebrate Harley-Davidson's 100th anniversary. It was a full-throttle weekend filled with tricked-out bikes, cool concerts, beer, booze and hot babes, including three SE models -- LaTasha Marzolla, Rochelle Loewen and Holly Laar -- who autographed issues and snapped photos with H-D and Playboy fans from all over the country.... Adam had it easy compared to the four partnered guys on the new season of Fox's Temptation Island 3, which premiered on August 28. Sensuous Maria Santos is one of 14 single Eves who tease, taunt and tempt the men to distraction this fall. See Maria's interview in "SE Insider" below for more details.... And finally, while we're on the subject, Miss July '97 Daphnee Lynn Duplaix acts as Cuba Gooding Jr.'s love interest in the September flick Fighting Temptation.
SE INSIDER
Maria Santos credits her seven SE appearances -- including this month's Exotic Beauties -- and her many promotional gigs, fashion shows and this year's designation as Miss Playboy TV Dominican Republic for giving her the confidence to walk through casting doors every day. Her persistence and personality paid off big time when the honchos at Temptation Island signed her up for the third intriguing installment of paranoia in paradise. We sat down with her to talk about her experiences getting to and being on the island.
Why do you think you were chosen? During the casting I talked about how much I love to party, how I enjoy entertaining people and, of course, the fact that I love the camera. That helps make me very comfortable in front of anyone, anywhere, anytime and any place. They wanted really outgoing people, so I turned on the personality!
What was the best part of the experience? Partying for two weeks straight without having to think, "Oh, I gotta go to work tomorrow." And it was all expenses paid!
And the worst? Having the camera in my face when I was hungover from the night before -- thank God for sunglasses -- and having to share a really small mirror with two other girls. But we got along great and made it work.
What can we look forward to? Let's just say there are a lot of twists to the story this season. The cast is the youngest they've ever had -- everyone is in their 20s -- and everyone is hot. The single guys, the single girls and even the couples are pretty good-looking. I think I do Playboy proud!
Would you do it again? Oh, yes -- I partied like a rock star! And I met some really cool people. Sharing the experience with guys helped give me a different outlook on how they value their relationships. All of them were different, so I got to see reactions to circumstances from four male perspectives.
What do you hope to get out of this? I'm looking forward to people watching me on Temptation Island and laughing with -- or even at -- me, but either way coming away liking me. If that happens, I'd like to eventually get steady work on television. If things don't work out, though, I have my license as an equity trader to fall back on. You always need a plan B.
Would you give it all up for marriage? There's a reason why I'm single. When I do something I give 100 percent, and right now my energy is directed on my career. I'm sacrificing one thing for the other for now. I want to get married someday and I want to have children, so it's up to me to work hard today so that tomorrow I have something to bring to the table. I'm not one of those chicks who wants a man to support her -- I want a guy to respect me for what I can do and how we can work together to have a better life.
