Dasha Astafieva was Playboy’s Miss January 2009, and the 55th Anniversary Playmate. Dasha is from Ordzhonikidze, a small mining town in central Ukraine. She first rose to fame as the winner of Star Factory, a Ukrainian talent show, and started modeling in 2003. Within four years, she had become Playboy Ukraine's Playmate of the Year, and she had even larger ambitions. "I have dreamed of being an American Playmate since I first saw the magazine," she said. "It has changed attitudes about beauty and sexuality and influenced people across the world. It is an honor to appear in Playboy."
We found Dasha after an exhaustive search for the 55th Anniversary Playmate, a casting call spread wide over the United States and Europe. How did she react when she got the news that she won? “I cried when Hef told me,” she told Playboy. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Miss January 2009 remembers the hardships her family faced when Ukraine became an independent nation following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. "Those days were difficult," she said. "I dreamed of earning money to help my parents."
Along with modeling, Dasha has recorded two albums with the girl group NikitA. "We have a pop-electro sexy style," she said. "We love music from the 1950s and 1960s." Dasha played herself in The Bunny House and The Girls Next Door, and has starred in several Ukrainian films, including Lovers in Kiev, which was a critical hit in the Ukraine. For all of her success, Dasha remains her humble self. “For me, it’s all about the small things in life,” she said, “Although I have to admit, I wouldn't mind being cast as a Bond girl."
