About Emma Watson

Emma Watson went from a kid with acting inclinations to a big-screen darling overnight. Playing a starring role in a movie based on a wildly popular book will do that to you. Emma starred as the sharp, sweet and insecure Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at age 11 and went on to appear in all of the many other parts of the series.

“I loved the books—I was a massive fan,” Emma told Interview in 2011. “I just felt like that part belonged to me. I know that sounds crazy, but from that first audition, I always knew. Maybe so much of myself at the time was similar to [Hermione]. ”

Since then, Emma’s grown from a wavy-haired, fresh-faced cutie to a stunning actress with some serious cred and a mix of humorous and poignant roles. She’s won several Teen Choice, MTV Movie, Young Artist, and film festival awards for her appearances in Harry Potter, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and more.

In between it all Emma made time to study English literature at Brown University, where she graduated in 2014. Her schedule has reportedly made dating tricky, though. She dated two different men from Oxford University, but after the second relationship ended a spokesman told The Daily Mail the split was caused by Emma’s “unrelenting work schedule.”

More recently Emma’s been focused on women’s issues in addition to her movie contracts and filming schedule. After publicly advocating for girls’ education around the world, UN Women appointed her Goodwill Ambassador. It’s a role she’s taken seriously, as her Instagram account shows. Instead of the types of photos you might usually find from a 20-something, almost all of them promote “HeForShe,” which asks men to help reverse gender inequality.
