This Austin Home Has a Living Roof With a Triangular Smart Pool Built 7 Feet Into the Ground

Nicole Theodore

Inspired by the Native American Pit House, this modern re-interpretation in Austin, Texas is an eco-friendly architectural masterpiece. With its insulate green roof and 7-foot excavation into the ground, the home is at maximum thermal comfort all year round. Edgeland House, built by Bercy Chen Studios, was commissioned for a science fiction writer obsessed with inhabiting abandoned industrial zones. The home sits on a rehabilitated brownfield site, and its living and sleeping quarters are broken up into two different spaces separated by outside elements. Considering you can’t even see the home from one side of the hill, you’ll feel like your own version of Batman in this modern secret lair.
