Endless Indian Summer: Warm Up This Fall Over 14 Indian-Spiced Cocktails

By Alyson Sheppard

Ingredients commonly used in Indian dishes are heating up American cocktails from coast to coast. The most popular drink on the menu at ABV cocktail bar in San Francisco is the Mumbai Mule, which consists of saffron-, cumin- and coriander-infused vodka, lemon juice, ginger syrup, mint and soda. ABV co-owner Ryan Fitzgerald, who thinks of the drink like a curry, says bartenders are turning to Indian spices now because they’re fun to work with. “They’re super culinary and go well with bar food,” he says. At the Broken Shaker in Miami, the Indian-themed Chai-Rum Manhattan (Chai masala-infused vermouth, rum and tiki bitters) is one of the bar’s biggest hits.

Here’s where to find 14 cocktails featuring Indian ingredients—like curry, cardamom, Kaffir lime leaves and yoghurt—and how to replicate them at home.
