As if you needed another reason to pack up and move to Hawaii, Ocean House, designed by Olson Kundig Architects, makes a solid case for ditching mainland. Inspired by traditional Balinese palaces and temples, the house actually sits on a promontory of exposed lava. It sounds freaky, but the setting is pretty damn gorgeous. A river of hardened lava also runs through the house, symbolizing the important Pacific culture sources of land and sea. And with sliding window walls that make you feel like you’re literally right next to the ocean, there’s no need to even hit the beach.
