About Gina Gershon

Gina Gershon honed her acting chops in the 80s and hasn’t stopped since. She’s also stayed smoking hot the whole time. The 80s and 90s saw her appearing in Cocktail, Showgirls, The Insider, and Face/Off, among others. More recently, she’s had major supporting roles on TV’s Rescue Me and How to Make It in America.

“I was fortunate enough to play many diversified roles in film, television, and stage … not always to the liking of my managers and agents, but I always did what I wanted,” she told The Untitled Magazine.

She’s appeared on Broadway many times. Although Gina always wanted to be an actress, she started out in singing and dancing, making connections in the theater world that led to acting gigs. “In each role, you bring out a different part of yourself,” she told BOMB Magazine about the interplay of being an actress and a musician. “Making [Prey for Rock & Roll] has spurred me on to keep doing music. I hadn’t forgotten how much I loved music, but taking that part, all of a sudden I had the physical experience of getting out and singing and playing in front of people. It’s the greatest thing ever.”

Gina is also an author. She penned a children’s book with her brother Dann, and in 2012 published an adult book about the true story of her runaway cat, “In Search of Cleo: How I Found My Pussy and Lost My Mind.”

“This is a true story, I’m not making this up,” she told The Untitled Magazine. “Different friends of mine would help me search for the cat, sending me to different cat psychics, or Santeria priests or some crystal man. Everyone was trying to help send me in the right direction. I found myself in some of these strange subcultures, you know, also in like cult meetings, you know, anything! I was desperate. Desperate times call for desperate measures.”

For portraying lesbian characters in films like Bound, Prey for Rock & Roll, and Showgirls, she’s widely regarded as a gay icon.

Talk about Gina’s personal life is mostly quiet (although she was rumored to have dated Bill Clinton, something she immediately denied). Recently, she’s been dating Bobby Dekeyser, the Belgian-German founder of luxury outdoor furniture company DEDON.
