What was different
for me, however, was the freedom that I had in public school versus
private school. I made new friends and I bought my first car when
I was 16. I also became a little mischievous: I started skipping
classes to go surfing at the beach with my friends. I remember not
attending school one day my junior year because I bought tickets
for my friend, Lily, and I to see A Chorus Line. I always
felt that I was socially advanced for my age and extremely smart
because I knew how to network -- even back then. I socialized so
well with all the teachers that I even talked my way out of missing
classes a few times. But, like most teenagers, I eventually outgrew
that phase and began focusing on my studies again.
After high school, I enrolled
as a dance major at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California. I also cheered
on the Gaucho football team as a song leader. I went on to become the Homecoming
Queen in my first year at Saddleback. But my college career was short-lived. I
had other, more exciting plans. During my first year at Saddleback, I earned a
spot on the LA Express cheerleading squad. For that entire year, I drove back
and forth to the LA Coliseum to cheer on our USFL team.
