In Japan, 1986...I had a blast
being there all by myself!

Modeling for Body Glove, 1989

I quit school the next year
to become a flight attendant for American Airlines. That was fun, but that didn't
last long either. Two of my old cheerleading friends convinced me to take off
to Japan with them for three months. I didn't speak any Japanese, but I thought,
Why not? We got a tiny apartment to share in Osaka, and worked in two different
clubs as dancers. It was such a crazy life. We would wear outrageous costumes
and breakdance and just get the crowd pumped up. The pay was good, and before
I knew it, I had picked up the language. Eventually my girlfriends returned home,
but I was not ready to leave yet. I took a job as an aerobics instructor and stayed
another few months with a new friend from New York. But as much as I loved Japan,
I eventually had to return to California. So I was 21, I missed Japan, and I thought,
Now what?
After a variety of jobs,
I started taking an acting class and got myself a commercial agent in LA. Then
the auditions came. And wouldn't you know it....
My career as a model started
with my first audition when I landed a job hawking Creap Christy non-dairy coffee
creamer in a Japanese commercial. It paid $700 a day. Hey, this is cake, I thought.
I think I could do this for a living. Since then, I have modeled in advertisements
for Ocean Pacific, Body Glove, Victory Swimsuit and Fedco. I loved modeling. It
took me all over, including back to Japan, where I spent a few months in Tokyo
as a fashion model in a club. Modeling kept me busy for a few more years, but
then I decided to take the plunge.
