the start of the race

THE CASTATIC RACE -- LA
I have been recuperating
this whole week from the most challenging race I could have ever imagined! It
was five times harder than New York! And that was tough for me. Many times during
this race I was challenged mentally (I really wanted to quit) but I knew I couldn't
let the girls down (Teammates Danelle and Jenny...not to mention Major Blain!)
Blain did send me the Ranger creed -- "You must complete the Mission"
-- and that is what has kept me going -- besides the fact that Mitch, Kevin and
Madeline were there cheering me on! :)
I drove from LA to Castatic
Friday night with the girls. We slept at the Comfort Inn Hotel. We were hydrating
pretty well and peeing every 15 minutes! Saturday morning we got up and had breakfast
at some truck dive -- we just talked about the race and tried to figure out what
was ahead of us. We went back to our rooms and started to get ready. We stretched
really well and got all of our gear together. Then Blain arrived and gave us the
news that this would be a very tough course!
We headed over to the race
site to set up at transition and check in. At 3:30 p.m., we were given the mileage
of the race...12 miles biking, 2.5 miles kayaking, 7.4 miles running! The race
would begin at 4:45 p.m. and we knew we would have to kick ass on the bikes so
we could finish before it was dark! Before the race we started to do several interviews
for FOX Sports, the Sports Channel and of course the Playboy Channel! Mitch, Kevin
and Maddy arrived 30 minutes before the race began -- they were so excited for
me! The big guy had on his Camelback....
