Day 1
We arrived in Anchorage where we went to our hotel and then met with our tour director...our knowledgeable guide for the next two weeks.

Day 2
Portage Glacier
We met with our new travel companions during breakfast. We then left for Portage Lake for a cruise to the face of Portage Glacier aboard our mv Ptarmigan.

Day 3
On the deluxe railcar
|
We traveled on a deluxe railcar of the McKinley Explorer, through Alaska's vast interior to Denali National Park, where we enjoyed a North Country breakfast and lunch in the car's dining room. We stayed overnight on the Nenana River.

Day 4
We took a natural history tour of the park and then reboarded the McKinley Explorer enjoying our dinner en route to Fairbanks for the night.

Day 5
Some more scenery in Alaska! Isn't this just beautiful?

We cruised the sternwheeler Discovery down the Chena and Tanana Rivers. We then hit the famed Alaska Highway, learning about its fascinating construction en route to Tok, the dog-mushing capital of Alaska.

Day 6
We took a Yukon Cruise along the Taylor Highway through the gold mining town of Chicken to the bush village of Eagle, Alaska. There, we boarded our own mv Yukon Queen II for an unforgettable cruise up the "River of Gold," past an Athabasacan fish camp, trappers' cabins and ghosts of miners past. In Dawson City, we saw dirt roads, hitching posts and saloons with swinging doors.
