I went on to further my studies at San Diego State University with a bachelor's degree in applied arts and sciences, with my emphasis in interior design. I joined a sorority, Pi Beta Phi, and was a "Little Sister" for Sigma Chi fraternity. During this time I was hired by the Dallas corporate offices of Chili's, a restaurant chain where I had once been a waitress, to be the interior decorator for all of its restaurants in the western region. This meant all new and updated restaurants were furnished by me -- everything from hundreds of plants and trees to pictures and antiques on the walls and shelves -- with thousands of dollars in my budget. All this while I was only a sophomore in college! I ended up decorating 20 restaurants over the course of a year and a half. I couldn't continue the job and continue school at the same time, or I would have never finished.
