That was the beginning of my dream come true. I had always wanted a career as a model, and Playboy helped me believe that I could achieve that. Playboy opened many doors for me and gave me tremendous confidence in myself. I was always the skinny and shy teenager who didn't have a lot of confidence. Becoming a Playmate showed me that I had something to offer, and it gave me the confidence that I was lacking.
The next year and a half I spent traveling all over the country. I went to Japan, doing promotion work for Playboy. I was so busy with personal appearances: radio, television and newspaper interviews. What an education! I grew up a lot during this time, and it really changed my life. It was great training for me. This is where I really got to see what I looked and sounded like on TV and radio.
Soon after shooting my pictorial with Playboy, I began
a very successful career as a model in print and TV commercials.
A lot of directors had been calling me to pursue acting,
but at the time I had a boyfriend and other commitments.
So I left Los Angeles and went to New York with my boyfriend,
Mark Goddard, one of the stars of the TV show Lost
in Space and a cast member of the Broadway show
The Act. It was in New York that I started modeling
with the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. Mark often coached
me, and with his acting background he was a great help
to my career. I think he really helped me tremendously!
I was then going to start pursuing acting, but Wilhelmina
asked me to sign with them for commercials and said that
they would let me do print modeling as well. I was a little
bit too small for fashion modeling, so they pushed me
as a commercial print model. That is how I started in
commercial advertising. Being in commercials was so natural
to me. |
